Hello Housekeepers, welcome to the eighth week of the Better Me program -fifty two weeks of inspirational little somethings designed to help you live a life less ordinary…
Shall we jump right in?
Choosing an online, cross device dump-it-all place for all the random thoughts, links, recipes, and lists you make on a daily basis will take you to betterment twice as fast as anything else on this 365 day list because it takes all that is usually scattered hither and thither and pops it in to one online space you can search in a jiffy and use whether you are sitting in front of your PC at home or out and about with your phone.
Today search for the application that feels comfortable and reflects the way you think. I personally now use Workflowy to run my entire life, but both Evernote and Wunderlist are excellent alternatives (This neatly captures the way six creative women use Evernote to organise their lives). So open free accounts with them all, test each out for a few days and then decide which feels most intuitive to you, before committing to it wholeheartedly.
Today download a piece of music called “Weightless” to your phone and use it at bedtime to gently lull your mind and body in to the most relaxed state possible. Recognized by the British Academy of Sound Therapy as scientifically the most relaxing piece of music possible due to the way the beats and the pauses in the music are arranged, Weightless is seven and a half minutes long, meaning it is long enough to use as a bedtime musical meditation sure to help you switch from fully alert to drowsy enough to welcome sleep.
Let’s face it, television is our favorite waste of time. There is simply something about parking our bottoms in front of an over-sized box that spells relaxation to both our mind and our body. But our TV hours don’t have to be wholly devoted to an endless round of soaps and celebrities and can instead be used to consciously educate our minds, improve our health and inspire our creativity.
Today use your Smart TV or Apple TV to stream Synergy TV in to your living room and resolve to choose one short video a day to better your mind for health, inspiration and happiness. Start with Your Focus Equals Freedom. Or 18 Rules For Happiness by the Dalai Lama.
These videos might be bite-sized but they will go a long way to reaffirming your commitment to being a better you.
Though it isn’t particularly pleasant to think of, the pillows we sleep on get mighty grubby and it helps to regularly launder them in order to prevent the spread of germs and to save your skin from repeated infection.
So scheduling a quarterly pillow wash (or more frequently if there is infection or virus in the house) is just the ticket for making sure that germs are regularly banished and that your bed feels deep down fresh, and your pillows fluffy, white and light.
Today then follow the instructions for laundering your pillows to be found here and freshen every bedroom in the house by the end of the day. Then get your calendar out and make a note to repeat the entire process in three months time.
Gluten isn’t good for any of us, let alone those poor souls whose bodies simply cannot tolerate it in a society abundant with the bloaty stuff. So making an effort to reduce the amount of gluten you consume, even when it isn’t medically necessary, can go a long way to improving the health of your family in terms of a whole host of often unseen inflammatory reactions that can have long term health implications.
Today begin my simply making one gluten free choice where you would normally choose wheat, oats, barley, or other gluten containing grains. Don’t make a song and dance about it: simply choose to only have a gluten free cereal available. Bake pizza on a cauliflower base. Serve burgers wrapped in lettuce instead of buns. Or bake a cake with gluten free flour.
As you choose the gluten free alternative more frequently you will quickly notice how much better you feel until an almost gluten free life really becomes the only life for you.
Today order Time Management Mama: Making Use of the Margins to Pursue your Passions by Sarah Korhnak and learn how to use the gaps between the routine tasks of your day to build a life more creative, or even a career more fulfilling.
You see despite how crazy busy we might feel, we all fritter time we could be spending on crafting a better way of life. The hour we spend in bed awake. The half hour we dedicate to watching news programs that do nothing more than leave us angry, sad or frustrated. The kids programs we sit beside them mindlessly watching. The three hours they are in nursery and we sit around drinking coffee instead of doing something improving…
All gaps we could be utilizing better and fail to daily because we roll with the punches instead of planning. Planning m’dear is key to a better life.
Finally today download PDsurF and transform in a virtual instant the way you organise and access the many. many PDF’s you no doubt download and then lose to the chaos of your computer. This great app opens each PDF you access, then lets you store them in the cloud, annotate them, read them and file them for easy retrieval. Absolutely lifesaving if you spend any money at all on virtual courses or other writing.
There is always a better way you know?
Have a lovely week Housekeepers.x
