Tuesday Miscellany

I know. You don't need to point out my latest blogging misdemeanor. Last week I started a series called "Monday Miscellany" in which I declared that I would be devoting a post weekly to all that was going on in my head and lo and behold I fell at the first post: Monday came and went in a frenzied attack of coughing and housework and I failed to post anything at all. So here I am on Tuesday, clearly more eccentric than ever, but willing to post a collection of muddly headed miscellanea for your pleasure and mine. If that is, you are willing to forgive me, for being so very round the twist... Yes? Then let me begin...

Things I've Been Doing

* Eating Waitrose's Spiced Aubergine Pate on absolutely everything and now thrilled to discover a recipe I can chuck a bit of chilli, pink peppercorns, garlic and pumpkin seeds into and adapt to taste...

* Struggling with the new comments system here on BrocanteHome. The very one I was gloating about last week: I am aware that some of your comments aren't getting through and I am working to fix it so do bear with me won't you?

* Identifying my Never, Never, Evers... and congratulating myself on knowing what I am capable of.

* Doing a happy dance because after THREE years without one I now (almost) have a newly tiled kitchen floor. A person was getting so sick of fifty year old chipped linoleum so this is no small pleasure...

* Sleeping, oh yay! Having given up on prescription sleeping tablets and chemist procured herbal remedies, for the past three nights I have taken myself back to basics and indulged in hot salt-laden baths, a glass of red wine,  milky malty drinks and copious amounts of lavender and it has worked. Sleep has been mine. And Operation Sleep must continue if I am to re-capture my sanity, grow back my eyebrows  and get back to real life...

* Feeling astonished by how very, very grown up my little boy is all of a sudden...feeling heart-stoppingly proud of how gentle he is with his kitten and wishing there was something (anything at all Finley?) that he really really wanted for Christmas. Oh and choosing my words very, very carefully these days because this is an eight year old child going on twenty-eight and a thoroughly dedicated Brocantehome reader if ever there was one. I knew this day would come...

* Reading "Cinderella Jane" on my Kindle. As recommended (with a caution to forgive the flowery nonsensical speech patterns) by the ever reliable Melody at Redeeming Qualities. A girl after my own heart methinks...

* Anticipating the arrival of my new iPhone, and weighing up which Cath Kidston case to decorate it with...

* Thoroughly enjoying the community spirit at Finn's new school and looking forward to the coffee morning talented floral artist Claire Winteringham will be hosting tomorrow morning.

 Things I've Been Working On

* My Christmas Planner. Though I do so hate to blow my own trumpet no other tool has made Christmas the breeze that it now is since the day I sat down and dreamed up this comprehensive planner. It is both a weapon in my festive armoury and a much-loved evening ritual to sit down and see just how my Christmas plans are coming along. This year I have housed my planner in a ribbon wrapped file and I am filling it in with pine green fountain ink...

* A tiny scrub to see me through the season. Washing slip covers, battling carpet stains and clearing up the mess after a certain persons rather successful DIY efforts. Ooh and giving thanks for the door going back on to the Laundry/Kitten room so said little animal doesn't lunge at every one of our visitors in his constant effort to snuggle up to anyone who will have him.

* Being nice. Because sometimes I'm not. No really. Sometimes, I just plain old not.

 Things I've Been Feeling

* Grateful. Sad. Weary and excited. Yep, all at once.

* Desperate for these gorgeous iced cinnamon star-shaped biscuits I can only ever find in December in Aldi.

* Worried about money. Because it is what I do and it is Christmas and life costs a fortune and there never seem to be enough spondoolies in my purse though luxuries around here definitely aren't what they used to be...

* Light headed. Because after all these years of hacking at my curls with the kitchen scissors I have finally allowed someone who knows what she is doing to wrap a hairdressers gown around my silly self in my own dining room and sort out the bird's nest on my head. Thank you Deb, love you.x

* And looking forward to Christmas all of a sudden. In whatever shape it comes. Because I love Christingle and Santa visits, spiced double cream, boxes of marzipan fruits, mulled wine, and the moment my little one creeps downstairs on Christmas morning and lets out a tiny whoop of joyful surprise...

Have a lovely week won't you Darlings? This little old Housekeeper of yours is off to drink Elderflower Bubbly with her dearest friend...
