So where were we?
I know… in my last anniversary post we established that I am not a six-figure blogger. That I am a fussy madam who has held herself back with a dose of the pedantics so persuasive it is a wonder Brocantehome exists at all. That I will not compromise my ideals, nor dilute my message by littering the site with flashing, blinking adverts nor disguise adverts as posts and pretend to be speaking from the heart.
( I can’t do it. I have tried and it made me feel icky. And I would rather be ickyless than a traitor to my own cause, no matter how well it might pay!)
So yes. I am a fussy cow and all those who know me will agree that I like things to be just so and when they are not I lose my mind. Anyways, this second post is one of three I am writing in an effort to explain what Alison is going to do next.
You see as we enter the fifteenth year BrocanteHome has been online, it has struck me that it is time for change. Huge, sweeping, off- you- pop, kind of change! The sort that takes a broom and sets about brushing all the flotsam and jetsam of years gone by, clean away!
This is in part, not about Brocantehome, but perhaps more pertinently, about me.
Though our roots are deeply entwined, my most authentic self exists beyond my work and I have become more aware of how much I need to change my offerings to better reflect the life I need to lead, to feel both whole and less fractured.
The process began back in the Summer when I simplified the main site and took away all the needless little somethings that had appeared over the years like so many frilly ornaments on a dressing table. I took them away and breathed a sigh of relief. For this is where I am at in both home and heart. So eager now to keep editing my life down to only that I love. That which works and that which serves us all.
The site is working well, you have told me that it is easier to navigate and I have created a routine for content that is simple and lovely to create. For the next year that isn’t going to change: the design will be staying the same and I will be doing my very best to avoid adding needless bells and whistles now that so many of us consume our internet on little phones and so rarely see the sites we visit in their full desktop glory anyway.
I have also made decisions about social media: a little something I have long neglected because it felt so fractured to me. At the very point when Facebook was starting to drive me bonkers, I hit a sweet spot with my daily quotes, prompts and images, and the fan page and Living Room group have been growing exponentially ever since. So Facebook stays, as does Instagram which I will be committing to wholeheartedly in 2019 in an effort to be more transparent about sharing my life through posts and daily stories there. What I won’t be doing with any real purpose is either Pinterest or Twitter: while both have their place in my life, neither bring anything to Brocantehome in terms of adding to the message I want to share in any meaningful way and so I will not be putting any time into either moving forward. I have never chased huge page views and I am much happier nurturing my tiny community and truly understanding you than I would ever be just trying to push my analytics up.
Much of the changes I am making are in an effort to create a more streamlined day. To create more consistent content and feel less demented by what I need to do next. Running a site like Brocante has so many facets and doing everything from writing to admin to graphic design alone is enough to send a person bananas in this complicated online landscape and I am so keen to make life easier in order to better manage my own wellbeing.
So then we come to The Salon. Ah, my lovely Salon. Until now the repository for all the content I have created over the years and a beautiful jumble of ideas and inspiration.
But that too will be changing. For the better. You see I surveyed a number of existing and former members and too many of them said there was simply too much included and they didn’t know where to start. And so on January 9th 2019 (mark it in your diaries!) you will find that the Salon is completely different: that there will be a clear path to a life less ordinary, more puttery loveliness for you to consume and use to create a more authentic, scrumptiously pretty domestic life and indeed more consistent resources to help you along the way!
So does this mean the Salon will be closing before then? Not at all! I will still be issuing new downloads and workshops and more pages for your planners, your pep-talks will still be going on and the Puttery Treats Club will still be issued, but I will be asking you to save much of the other content to your computers if you want to keep it, before it goes forever at the end of the year, in time for a whole host of new surprises.
Some of my content is now years old and I want to take the best of it, update it and turn it into physical books we can keep for always. I want our fifteenth year together to be both about extracting what is brilliant, consolidating what is loved into other forms and editing out that which doesn’t reflect the message I want to share going forward.
The vision of what I want to share, how I want to share it and how I want to live is very clear in my mind now. It is I suppose a growing up sorts. Quality over quantity. An edited life. A clear direction.
Ok so here is what is going to happen: most of my older products are for the next few weeks available on a Pay What You Want basis in my dedicated Sales Room and there is 50% off all Salon Subscriptions using the links below.
Pay What You Want is something I have done for the past few years as I have long been dedicated to sharing my work with as many women who want it as possible. Not all of the products I want to include are there yet and I will be adding more as the weeks go by. But do please use Pay What You Want honorably and truly pay what you can afford: in this way we help those who truly cannot afford to pay more than the bare minimum and I can afford to keep on offering this annually as a gift to all.
The pricing for the Salon is something I think I have got wrong and I want to address that as soon as possible, so in the short term the 50% will also apply to that too (If you are an existing member instructions for getting the reduced price will be sent to you so please hangfire, I promise I won’t let you pay any more than you need to! You simply need to cancel your existing subscription and buy the new one: go into your account in the Salon to cancel.) and I will be releasing more and more details of what will be included in the Salon 2019, over the coming weeks.
So that means you can use the coupon code “2019” to pay (and lock in for a lifetime!) the following prices:
The monthly subscription would go from $29.00 to $14.50. (Click here to pay monthly!)
The annual subscription would go from $299.00 to $149.50 (Click here to pay annually!)
And the LIFETIME membership will go from $399.00 to $199.50 – which means you would never again pay me a penny for your Salon subscription and trust me, The Salon is here to stay! ( Click here to pay for a lifetime subscription!)
These prices are not forever. In line with good membership practice, I am banishing both the annual and the lifetime subscription charges at the end of the year in favor of a flat monthly rate of $20.00. For the sake of accounting ease and fair play to all. While I have said this before and quickly lost my nerve (I am the most awful ditherer!), this time I will be sticking to my decision, so if you want to pay annually, and get the savings included, now is the time!
Next, I want to talk about my books. Very soon I am going to taking some of the books available in the Kindle store down and consolidating them into bigger volumes (So all the puttery treats in one book, all the Seasonal House books in one volume) and making room for the new series of books I want to focus on next year (I will tell you more soon, I promise!). To those who have supported my books on Patreon, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I would be grateful if you could look out for an email from me next week sharing what I plan to do with my lovely Book of Days seen as it has taken so much longer than I expected to create.
And finally, I will be making a few changes to how I communicate with you so that it is less ad-hoc and more consistent and indeed so that my responses to you are more regular and timely. This is actually one of my biggest issues and one I am determined to work on going forward.
Till Next Week Then…
Next week I will be sharing more details about exactly what I want my message for Brocantehome in 2019 to be and how I will be sharing that across all the different content I will be creating, but in the meantime you can use the code “2019” to grab your 50% off Salon Membership and hop over to PAY WHAT YOU WANT now.
Please feel free to use the contact button to ask any questions that you might have. I am here to help. (Though it is my Dad’s seventieth birthday celebrations this weekend and I am away so please allow me a little time to respond!)
P.S: Neither the Puttery Treats Club (be quick if you want this: the price goes up Monday!) nor my extensive Festive Planner is included in the 50% off deal, though both are of course included free in The Salon.
