Hello Darling Vintage Housekeepers, and welcome to the Better Me program -fifty two weeks of inspirational little somethings designed to help you live a life less ordinary…
Each and every Sunday evening there will be one tiny task, link, or puttery treat for every day of the upcoming week and at the end of each Better Me post you will find the tasks included in a printable worksheet so that you can tick them off and refer back to them as we move through the year.
Are you ready? It’s time to get started…
Let us begin with breath, because breath is where everything else begins and if we can teach ourselves to master a breathing technique that will bring about instant calm, we offer ourselves the gift of a skill we can always call upon in times of distress or wakefulness.
Today then watch Dr. Andrew Weil demonstrating the 4-7-8 Breath Technique and resolve to practice it twice a day during 2016 as a quick and soothing alternative to meditation.
To my mind Geraniums are quite the happiest of indoor plants and nothing gladdens my heart faster than seeing a row of their happy droopy little heads winking on a windowsill.
Today then, might I suggest shopping for the most fragrant of geranium seeds, and sowing them in those little peat pots? Geraniums sown now will flower mid May, so in the midst of Spring you will have a heavenly windowsill full of fragrant delight and you will have experienced the joy that is beauty blossoming at you own hands. Think then of this task as a symbol of your own growth in 2016.
Today is the day to take a life changing browse through the magical art of tidying up. Spark Joy is Marie Kondo’s illustrated masterclass in her inspirational KonMarie method of tidying and organizing household goods and having devoured it myself I would not hesitate to recommend it to all those of you determined to make 2016 the year when chaos no longer stands between you and peace of mind.
There comes, apparently, in the midst of Winter, a point when Vitamin D levels become so depleted it begins to affect our health and manifests itself as aches, pains and the kind of bodily morning stiffness that makes us feel like life is so very much harder in January than it is at any other time during the year.
Today then is the day to try to plan to incorporate more Vitamin D rich foods in your weekly meal plan, by browsing this list and seeking recipes based on the foodstuffs recommended, to make sure that levels of this essential vitamin are optimized while access to sunlight is compromised during the much shorter workdays of Winter.
Today have a little fun with this “eerily accurate” pocket life coach, Teledipity, and see what life has apparently got in store for you according to the principles of Pythagorean Numerology. Though it is indeed only for fun, the reports Teledipity generates are extremely comprehensive, spookily true, and make a rather refreshing change to the ubiquitous horoscopes doing the rounds at this time of year…
It is quite possible that we have all become too embroiled in the pressures of keeping up with the virtual Jones’s and so might I suggest that today is the day to get cosy with your laptop and perform a social media cleanse? Decide to follow only those who make you feel inspired, those who publish only positive social media posts and those unlikely to try to embroil you in online political debate.
Study each and every social media account you currently engage in and decide to close those which you really don’t have time for. Consider instead concentrating your efforts on the places where your favorite tribes engage most and stop spreading yourself so thinly you never really experience the sense of community social media is designed to foster.
Make this the year you control social media instead of letting it control you.
And finally today download Susannah Conway’s beautifully spiritual workbook and calendar for free and spend a happy hour or two delving deep and unravelling the year ahead. This is a process I have performed for the past five years and each year with the guidance of Susannah’s eloquent questions I have made discoveries about myself and my intentions that have helped me shape my year.
Today it is your turn to turn your attention to what is most sacred to you in the year ahead.
Have a lovely week Housekeepers.x
