My Finn has been a little sad lately. He has recently been diagnosed with photo-sensitive dermatitis and cannot step into the sun without being coated with factor 50 a couple of times a day or else he develops a scarlet rash across his nose and cheeks. This along with his recurrent parotitis, oral Crohns and of course, Coeliacs disease means he has been feeling pretty sorry for himself, and is suffering a rather sad case of the “why me’s?”
There are of course no answers to that question and as a Mummy it is my job to shake him out of the doldrums, but readers, for once I was totally out of ideas. And then Mum and Dad took him shopping. For a puppy! And our little Alfie, a twelve week old Cockapoo was adopted, in order to bring a smile to poor little Finn’s swollen face, and have Mum and Dad clucking around like the parents of a new-born!
Alfie is the most darling,well-behaved little puppy that there ever was. A bundle of creamy fluff, who barely makes a sound until he finds himself alone in a room. Though he will live in Mum and Dad’s house just a few minutes away from ours, he is to be Finn’s dog and the two are utterly besotted by each other. And I am deeply jealous because I am rather desperate to be the love of this little cuties life and have been bribing him with cuddles and kisses and letting him jump on to my knee whenever my Mum leaves the room…
Nothing, oh but nothing brings a smile to the face of a child quicker than a new pet. And though we have our much-loved little Alice here, a dog, to a child, is infinitely better company and I can see many hours being lost to Finn and Alfie playing ball in Mum’s long garden…
So this is a thank you to my lovely Mum and Dad. Sometimes the efforts of being a single Mum can exhaust even the strongest of Mummies, and my own Mum and Dad are always right there behind me, supporting me and bringing a smile to my babba’s face.
I am so very grateful for Alfie.x
