Mary Stewart Season

My love of the cosy mystery it seems will never tire, and after last years gallop through the Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series, this year, before Winter comes a calling I have grabbed a box set full of Mary Stewart novels for the rather cosy price of just £9.99 and I am planning a scrumptious season full of vintage romance and suspense… not least because Hodder have seen fit to re-package all of Stewarts mystery novels in pretty paperbacks bedecked with vintage ladies in their finest.

Where once upon a time I was all about the taxing, intellectual read, now life has numbed my brain to such a degree with love and babba’s, business and housekeeping, I can only stretch to a never ending stream of lovely little stories, and Mary Stewarts collection of gently tense romances fit the bill entirely, and moreover are graced by the voice of a woman much celebrated for her exquisite writing and talent for the kind of storytelling destined to get under your skin without bothering your head…

I’m starting with Stormy Petrel and this evening cannot wait to batten down the hatches, warm up this rather ridiculously chilly august evening with a real fire, and get to know a new friend.

For what are authors if not destined to become our life long friends?

  1. Ooh I love Mary Stewart! She is just so cosy and scrumptious! I read Wildfire At Midnight years ago, and always swoop on them in charity shops. I had an Agatha Raisin/Hamish Macbeth odyssey last year too! Happy reading!

  2. I looked up the collection (spiffy price) and noticed it had 'Thornyhold' in it…a favorite of mine. Wonder if you've read her 'Rose Cottage'…another totally cozy read. 🙂 Good stuff!

Naughty is my middle name Gena. Do you have a Kindle yet? I had thought it might reduce my book spend… but sadly not.

      • No I dont have a kindle,I bought Katie one for her Birthday and she loves it,but I just love books! I love the feel of a book and the smell, yikes! I am so weird!

Oh I suspect there are a lot of book sniffers around here Gena! But I am finding that it is cheap paperbacks and free Guenbergs that I'm reading on the Kindle and old Viragos and new Persephones I'm buying… which satisfies my own book smelling tendencies completely…

And yes, I always suspected you were a bit weird! *wink*x
